Want to build a wardrobe that you love, but isn’t too big? In the name of minimalism, many of us don’t want to have tons and tons and tons of clothing that we don’t wear. Instead, we want clothing that looks good, feels good, and stands the test of time. It is better for the world, better for our homes, and better for our checkbooks.
So how do you build a wardrobe that is minimalist but still fashion forward? To start, you need the basics.
You need to have a pair of comfortable black shoes that you can walk in and feel comfortable in at all times. You want something that you can dress up or dress down. Something that will be great for dates or the office. Something you can wear to funerals or the doctor’s office. When you find that pair of shoes, you will be well on your way.
When you have a jacket that you know is warm and dry, you will always reach for it. Too often, we have way too many jackets that are “just about perfect” but don’t actually do what we need them to do. Instead of being warm and waterproof, they are waterproof and look cute, but you shiver. Or they keep you warm and dry but they don’t look great on you.
It can take some time to find the perfect jacket for you, but when you do, you will want to wear it all the time – and those ugly days will be a bit better.
Denim is becoming increasingly appropriate in all situations, so why aren’t more people investing in denim that they can love? Once again, it might take some trial and error to find a pair of jeans that you love, but it will be worth it when you do.
What is the one jumper that you have that is warm, cozy, and looks great? Like jackets, it can be difficult to find one that has everything you need. Invest in a chunky jumper that you can dress up or dress down as you like. Make sure to get it repaired as soon as something unravels and you will have a great experience.
Wearing an LBD makes everyone feel a little bit better – so why invest in a ton when you can have one little black dress that makes you look and feel your best? When you find it, you will know.
Start your minimalist wardrobe and see how much easier the rest of your life becomes.
